SAFETY SCORE
An industry-first Automated Safety Performance Monitoring solution to help road agencies proactively manage safety using a powerful data-driven approach.
First introduced at TRB 2023, this solution is embedded in the Derq Dashboard INSIGHT suite, and provides an automated safety performance scoring framework and tools which enables safety scoring and prioritization across road networks. Derq’s Automated Safety Performance Metrics (ASPMs) are based on real-time identification and granular classification of safety events and road user behaviors, such as crashes, near-misses, violations, and pedestrian and cyclist compliance issues. These metrics ultimately generate Safety Scores and in turn a safety ranking across road corridors or networks.
The ASPMs enable agencies to proactively identify safety issues and establish risk profiles at high priority locations which can help in-turn inform the development of the most beneficial countermeasures and treatments. The solution can also help measure their effectiveness with short turnaround times, since it is collecting safety data continuously and in real-time.
The solution calculates two key scores using the ASPMs: the Vehicle Safety Score, measuring key safety metrics impacting the safety of vehicles, as well as the VRU Safety Score, measuring key safety metrics impacting the safety of Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs). An overall Safety Score is then calculated based on user-defined priorities around safety monitoring.
